From Monday 23rd October 2017, London will be introducing a Toxicity charge, also known as a T-Charge, in a bid to help reduce air pollution by discouraging drivers of older, high polluting vehicles from entering the city.

The Toxicity Charge will apply to all vehicles that do not meet the Euro 4 emission standards that enter the current London Congestion Charge Zone – generally most cars registered before 2006.

The T-Charge will cost an additional £10 on top of the standard £11.50 congestion charge for entering the zone. Like the Congestion Charge, the T-Charge will be applicable Monday to Friday, between 7am and 6pm, and is payable in the same manner as the Congestion Charge.

The T-Charge is the first step towards the introduction of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), when tighter vehicle emissions standards will be required. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, wants to introduce this scheme in 2019.

The T-Charge is a vital step in tackling the dirtiest diesels before I introduce the world’s first Ultra Low Emission Zone as early as 2019″ said Sadiq Kahn, Mayor of London.”
