Total Motion apprentices are well on their way to vehicle management careers

Total Motion apprentices Neil Spurling and Ross Matthew really enjoy working at the sharp end of vehicle management.

In their respective roles in data reporting and sales, the two Leicestershire teenagers are playing an integral part in ensuring our customers get the best levels of service and competitive prices.

The two are among several apprentices we recruited last summer following a drive to find bright young people looking to train for a rewarding career in the automotive sector.

Neil, who is 19 and from Braunstone, joined the company in June, after completing a course in games development at Leicester College.

He came along to Total Motion’s Open Day in April and, after looking around all departments, decided on an apprenticeship in Data and Reporting.

Neil said: “My job involves getting hold of data and giving reports, such as letting clients know when their MOT is due. I also input information about new cars and new drivers on to the system.

“It’s great being on the computer and I like the team I work with. Everyone here is warm and friendly and I’m getting good on the job training.”

Eighteen-year-old apprentice Ross from Kibworth found out about Total Motion’s recruitment drive via a friend of his dad.

Ross, who has worked in SME Sales since he joined Total Motion in July, also attended Leicester College, leaving with a level 3 extended diploma in IT.

Now, as part of his apprenticeship, he is furthering his qualifications by taking a level 2 business course and is assessed in the workplace.

He added: “I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after college but I’m really enjoying my job.

“I check vehicle funders’ deals, so we get the most competitive vehicle prices, then I load them on to the website.  It involves a lot of market research so my IT qualification comes in handy.”

“It’s nice here. We’re like a family and my team is close-knit. We all work to help each other.”

Total Motion managing director Simon Hill said the apprentices had settled in well and were making good progress.

He added: “They have been with us for six months now and are a welcome addition to the teams.

“As a progressive, go-ahead company we see it as vital to invest in the future of our young people, benefiting not just our business but also the communities we serve.

“Our apprenticeships provide a great chance for bright young people to train for an exciting, well paid job in the motor industry, without going to university and racking up huge amounts of student loan debt.”

Total Motion drives ahead with new product innovations for 2019

Since taking on our first fleet management client more than 20 years ago, Total Motion has quite literally been an industry driving force.

In fact, we have delivered more actual savings for our clients than any other provider in the vehicle management sector, and we are the only company who provides a guarantee.

As a business which has achieved prominent industry firsts, we are always keen to innovate, and 2019 will be no exception.

During the next 12 months, Total Motion will be rolling out a number of new and exciting products – all of which are designed to meet the changing needs of fleet management in the UK.

Our new products include:

  • Van Manager – A specific funding and management product for vans
  • Mobility Card Solution – A solution to replace fuel cards and offer the ability to pay for other items such as trains and taxis
  • 12-month Non-Regulated Employee Car Ownership Scheme – Based on an ECOS scheme, this is a zero BIK option for company car drivers
  • 3-12-month Flexible Lease – A solution for temporary cars for between 3-12 months

Simon Hill, Total Motion managing director, said: “In recent years our innovative products such as multi-bid leasing, no-cost fleet audit, road charging and toll management, hybrid leasing and Actual Whole Life Costs, have allowed us to deliver a minimum 18% reduction in fleet cost for every single Total Motion client. All told, we have saved our clients more than £240 million.

“This commitment to finding workable, cost-effective solutions for our clients is what continues to drive us forward.

“The far-reaching environmental and economic challenges currently facing our industry are well documented, and as a business we are constantly looking at proactive ways to address them.”

The Potters already had a long-standing relationship with the Leicestershire-based company, the UK’s largest family run and privately owned fleet management and leasing provider.

The new partnership will allow Total Motion to promote personal lease deals exclusively to City supporters, whilst also aiming to provide the cheapest quotes in the country on specific deals – from small cars, to company vehicles and van fleets.

City’s Chief Commercial Officer Paul Lakin said: “We are delighted to welcome Total Motion to our group of Platinum Partners.

“They are long serving and trusted friends of the club who have strong buying power in the lease car sector. That will significantly benefit our fanbase who will receive weekly exclusive personal lease deals, often at genuine unbeatable prices, through our social media platforms.”

Managing Director Simon Hill said “Having worked with the club for over 10 years becoming a partner seemed like a natural progression and we are keen to support the club and supporters.

“Our aim is to give the Potters faithful deals on cars and vans that are market leading keeping it all in the family. So whether it’s a car or van for a business or a personal lease we will make experience simple, easy and of course deliver the best possible price.

“We are really excited about the next phase of our relationship and what the future holds”.

Total Motion celebrates a year of award wins and exciting partnerships

As this year draws to a close, we are proud to look back on some of our biggest achievements during 2018.

One of the main highlights has been, without doubt, Total Motion’s exciting partnership deal with Premiership rugby club Leicester Tigers.

As Tigers’ official vehicle supplier, we now look after the motoring needs of the club and its supporters – giving Tigers’ fans exclusive access to the Total Motion Affinity Scheme so they can enjoy discounted rates on a wide selection of vehicles.

Through this deal we have also supplied the Leicester Tigers Foundation community minibus and the club’s new training equipment and kit van.

Additionally, we are title partner for Leicester Tigers’ Rugby World Cup Preview Dinner on March 5 2019 and will continue to be involved in branding opportunities at Welford Road and events throughout the rest of the 2018/19 season.

With regard to recent accolades, Total Motion was thrilled to be named as 2018 Leicester Mercury Company of the Year in the Leicester Mercury Business Awards.

Our phenomenal sales growth, job creation, commitment to corporate social responsibility and proven track record in innovation all helped us to secure this coveted title.

And, recognition of this success has been national as well as local; for the third year running we were featured among the UK’s 1000 Most Dynamic SMEs published by the London Stock Exchange.

To make sure Total Motion stays dynamic, we constantly look at new ways to enhance our offer.  In March, for example, we introduced Personal Contact Hire – allowing individuals, as well as businesses, to enjoy the various advantages of fixed-cost motoring.  The launch of our new data and management information system in August has also helped ensure that clients receive the best possible vehicle management service

As part of our commitment to training and recruitment, we launched an apprenticeship drive in April which included an open day at our Meridian Business Park head office.

We’ve been busy recruiting bright, enthusiastic young people to work as apprentices in all areas of our business, including software and IT, accounting and finance, sales and marketing, customer services and vehicle engineering.  Trainees get chance to work in a range of departments, and they receive some of the best rates of apprentice pay in Leicester.

Elsewhere in the company, we have been strengthening our teams in key areas such as accounts administration, sales support, quote and order, vehicle marketing and data analysis.

Every year Total Motion plays an active role in supporting the wider community, and 2018 has been no exception.

At the end of January, we exhibited at a national employment and careers fair aimed at helping ex-service personnel make the transition to civilian life.

The British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS) event

The British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS) event was held at Aldershot Garrison and attracted hundreds of visitors. It was the first time we’ve exhibited at a recruitment fair and we were overwhelmed by the great response.

In June, after months of training, preparation and hard work, cyclists from Total Motion completed a 118-mile charity bike ride from Leicester to Sheringham in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

We chose the hospital as our charity of the year for 2018 in recognition of the tremendous care it gives to Peyton Rowley, a little girl with an extremely rare condition whose dad, Jamie, is our logistics manager.

Our chosen charity for 2019 is Bodie Hodges Foundation (BHF), and among next year’s planned events is the second BHF Golf Day and a sponsored cycle ride from Leicester to Cromer via Bodie’s Boathouse.

BHF was originally established by Nick Hodges from Leicester in memory of his baby son Bodie who died following a choking accident in 2012. We have worked with BHF recently on several fundraising events and are proud to continue our support of the foundation’s amazing work as its official charity partner.

Simon Hill, managing director, said: “It has been another busy 12 months for Total Motion across all areas of the business, with the company enjoying a number of notable highlights despite the economic uncertainty wrought by Brexit and far-reaching changes in our industry.

“We’re very proud of our achievements but we know that none of them would be possible without the support of our loyal customers and dedicated staff.

“We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best for a prosperous 2019.”

Pedalling for Peyton: Birmingham Children’s Hospital is Total Motion’s charity of the year

Total Motion has made Birmingham Children’s Hospital its charity of the year in recognition of the tremendous care it gives to Peyton Rowley – the young daughter of our logistics manager Jamie Rowley.

Two- year-old-Peyton was born with a deletion to chromosome 17q12 – a condition so rare that there is no medical name for it. Peyton is the only known person with this deletion on a data base held by all countries with an advanced genetics department.

She is currently undergoing treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and will need ongoing medical care for the rest of her life
As a thank you to the hospital, dad Jamie along with Total Motion colleagues and partners will be taking part in a 118-mile charity cycle ride on June 16.

They are aiming to raise £5,000 by cycling from our head office on Meridian Business Park to Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast.

Jamie said: “Peyton’s condition affects her in many ways but she is a very brave little girl.

“The care and attention she receives from Birmingham Children’s Hospital every time she visits for treatment has made the experience that little bit easier, not just for Peyton but for the whole family.

“Total Motion’s charity cycle ride will help us give something back to the hospital and we’re very grateful to everyone who is helping us raise money.”

Total Motion will be holding other fundraising initiatives throughout the year in support of our chosen charity.
