A Simple Solution to
Licence Checking
Fleet management company Total
Motion has been authorised by the DVLA to undertake direct driver licence
checks on behalf of its clients.
To help clients meet their
duty of care, Total Motion can now check the licence of any driver driving
on company business through the DVLA computer. Checks can be conducted on
an annual, scheduled or ad hoc basis, providing clients with a simple
report detailing any issues that need attention.
Checking licences this way is
more accurate as it prevents drivers presenting fraudulent or stolen
licences to employers. A recent survey conducted by Total Motion revealed
four percent of licences to be invalid, even though the companies had
checked them.
With costs starting from £6.50
per licence, the service can also reduce the cost to the business of
carrying out the task by as much as 50%, based upon a fleet of 100
vehicles.
Simon Hill, managing director
of Total Motion says: “This is one of the most vital checks companies need
to perform on their drivers, but it can be time-consuming and problematic
to keep up to date.
“We can make the whole process
simple and automatic, so the client has the peace of mind that it is
protected but only has to get involved if we identify a problem.”
Under the scheme, clients
simply have to obtain a single signed authorisation form from each company
driver. Total Motion can then check their records direct with the DVLA as
and when required.
Authorised or nominated
drivers can also be included which, combined with Total Motion’s fines and
penalties database, creates the facility to check if partners are taking
points or endorsements on behalf of employees.
