Vehicle fleet management
specialist Total Motion has warned fleets not to be too hasty
to add hybrid vehicles to their fleet in light of increasing
fuel costs.
This warning comes after the
completion of a recent detailed study that showed many
Hybrids’ such as the Toyota Prius have a higher carbon
footprint and lower fuel consumption than the more modern
advanced diesel engines.
Managing Director Simon Hill says
“Directors and those responsible for fleet decisions should be
careful and ignore the marketing hype, if they don’t want to
see costs increase”.
As part of the test the following
vehicles covered 5,000 miles of varied driving to measure MPG
▪
Toyota Prius
▪ BMW 1 Series Diesel
▪ Range Rover Sport
▪ Vauxhall Insignia Diesel
The results were
1 BMW 1
Series 54.80 MPG
2 Vauxhall Insignia 46.20 MPG
3 Range Rover Sport 28.10 MPG
4 Toyota Prius 26.40 MPG
Indicating that very careful
consideration is needed before moving away from the norm.
